3 Epoch 3: Big Wheels Day
Epoch 3 Total: ~$65-85
Lift kit and larger tires for that aggressive lifted truck look. This is the kids’ milestone—let them pick the tire style and make it about their request. The underdrive gears compensate for the taller tires so you don’t lose crawling ability.
After this epoch: Lifted stance, larger wheels, more ground clearance, better approach/departure angles.
The kids’ job: Choosing tire style, mounting wheels, first drive with big wheels.
3.1 Bill of Materials
3.2 Q&A
What size tires fit without modification?
Stock is 57mm on 1.0” wheels. Up to 64mm fits with possible minor body rubbing. For 64mm+ you need the lift kit.
Why underdrive gears?
Larger tires effectively raise your gear ratio, making the truck faster but weaker on climbs. Underdrive gears (24T/10T) restore the crawling torque.
How big is too big?
Going larger than 70mm makes the platform look like a monster truck rather than a scale crawler. The 2.4” Baja Pro XS at ~68mm is about the sweet spot.
