7 Epoch 7: Lightning Upgrade
Epoch 7 Total: ~$80-120
Swapping to brushless motor and ESC for more power, efficiency, and control. The truck is already very capable after Epochs 5-6—this is for when you want more speed on trails or even finer low-speed control with a sensored system.
After this epoch: More power and efficiency, finer low-speed control (sensored), longer runtime per battery, less maintenance.
Tip: The Furitek Stinger and Injora Roverin offer better crawling control than the Traxxas system, which is more trail-oriented.

7.2 Q&A
Sensored vs sensorless—what’s the difference?
Sensored motors have hall effect sensors that tell the ESC the exact rotor position. This allows ultra-smooth low-speed control—critical for crawling. Sensorless motors are simpler and cheaper but can “cog” (stutter) at very low speeds.
Which system should I pick?
- Traxxas #6250: Easiest install (plug-and-play), but sensorless and trail-biased
- Furitek Stinger: Sensored, excellent crawl control, popular in the community
- Injora Roverin FOC: Sensored, good value, FOC control for smooth power delivery
For dedicated crawling, the Furitek or Injora are better choices.
Will brushless burn out the drivetrain?
Not at crawling speeds. The extra power is mostly useful on trails or when carrying heavy brass weight. Keep speed limiting on for the kids.
